This year, the English National Cross Country Championships, held by the English Cross Country Association, were hosted by Northern Athletics at the scenic Harewood House in Leeds. This historic event saw the 131st running of the Senior Men’s Championship and the 86th running of the Senior Women’s Championship, as well as junior races from the under 13 age group upwards. Over 8000 runners from all categories representing clubs across the country were registered to compete!
Cross Country is normally associated with cold, wet and muddy conditions but this was not the case. It was closer to a summers day with the ground in great condition; although you could easily see how a little bit of rain would turn this into a mud festival as some of the Junior members can recount when Harewood House hosted the Northern championships last year.
The Senior Men’s race was a 12km 2 lap course with around 750ft of climbing. With over 2000 runners in the men’s race. Representing BMHH were some of our regular cross country runners, Chris Jefferies, Gary Dack and Stephen Roe. For anyone interested in taking part in NYSD cross country races, keep your eye on the club website for further details after the summer road season. It would be great to have men’s and women’s teams representing BMHH at each race!
