Not a Bad Day at the Races for BMHH! – The “Old Monks” – Sunday 5th January 2020

A superb turnout at the Stuart Pailor Memorial (Old Monks) Trail Race with 273 runners toeing the start line, and 20 Marsh House Harriers from all the Senior Groups being represented.

For those that have not run the ‘Old Monks’ before it is billed as a 5.5-mile multi-terrain race. Starting from Hart Village, through the dene, with two challenging climbs and flat tarmac back to the finish.

The conditions for the race were excellent, dry, warm for early-January and only a slight breeze in exposed sections. Even the Dene was runnable!

The host club, Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers always have a good showing in this race, and they didn’t disappoint today with the first three finishers from Hartlepool. However, we didn’t let ourselves down today with several male and female category placings

Darren Smith ran another great race, coming home in 4th place overall and 2nd in the Senior Men’s Category in 33mins 43secs. Which on that course is very impressive.

Andy Hardy, who is also in great form, was the second Harrier home and 1st place for the V50 Category with James Fishburn just behind, for the 3rd Harrier counter.

Gary Dack was the next Harrier to finish this tough race and was rewarded with a 1st place V55 Category win, with Dave Mullholland 9 secs behind him.

The next Harriers through the finish line were Stephen Brown, Stephen Roe, Stephen Guest and Darren Ansbro.

The first female Harrier home was Sarah Roe, who had incorporated the 5.5mile tough multi-terrain race with her Sunday long run. Her 10mile warmup before the starters whistle didn’t seem to slow Sarah down and finished 2nd Senior Female overall! Well done Sarah. ?

Mike Robbins was the “thorn between the roses” finishing just in front of Andrea Clyburn with Sarah Short and Helen Hill following on a few seconds behind.

The next Harriers through the finish funnel were Katie Callcutt, Sally Dack, Rebecca Wright, Sandra Main and Joe Foley.

And the final Harrier home was Erika Enisz and was rewarded with a 1st place category win. Well done Erika. See all the results here:
